Betrayal

Betrayal, it’s a common factor in many villain origin stories, but can be done in many ways.

As I get deeper into our villain, Joran’s, narrative his story become more and more relatable. He wanted to be an example of how his race could be more than overzealous warriors, but his best friend betrayed him. He watched his race be eradicated off the face of the earth by the person he trusted most. Wouldn’t you be angry? Later he’s goes to seek out the people responsible for turning his friend against him only to find out one of his new companions is one of them. When she betrays Joran he understands why, he sees himself in her. When he meets the main character, she inspires him to try to be better, but is once again betrayed.

He’s been wounded so deeply that I honestly can’t blame him for what he does.

What is betrayal to you?

For our fellow writers, how do you write a betrayal story?
