Inspiration

Where do you get your inspiration from?

Is it the little everyday things that put a smile on your face? Is it the people you interact with? Is it the world around you?

I wanted to begin this post with a question because I want you to think about it as you read. I find inspiration in nature. The natural world is not just a thing of beauty it is a reminder of one of the most beautiful things we humans experience, change.

Whether you’re standing on a rock high on a mountain overlooking miles of tree-filled forest or watching ants do their daily duty walking along a stick there is a profoundness in all of it. One thing I encourage all writers to do is to fall in love with the natural world because it is everything. Nature is our history, our present, and our future. For those of you who have seen the pictures I’ve taken up on the website here or are even just looking at this cover photo (also taken by me) know nature is a big part of my life.

Sisiran, king of the wolves and the first spirit to be thought was inspired by a humble coyote I saw on a walk through the woods.

I would also encourage my fellow writers to find the beauty in the people they meet.

Need inspiration? Go out and watch someone goes about their day, write about what things they’ve seen and adventures they’ve been on. The old man across the street in his younger days chasing down his friends in their parents' car nearly getting arrested but narrowly escaping. The young boy growing up to be the man who invents interstellar travel. Your friend, the hero of their own story fighting dragons and being the amazing person you know they are.

Inspiration is everywhere. All it takes is a little imagination to see it.
