Eden

Writer's picture: Kyle WilliamsKyle Williams

Here is a story inspired by an OC created by my close friend and one of the most wonderfully creative and inspiring people I know.

Eden loved spending time outside. She perched in the lotus on her cushion and rested under her parasol. She felt the sun’s beautiful warmth wrap around we like a blanket. She loved the sun, the majestic life giving ball of warmth that shines down on her. Her albinism kept her from being in direct contact with the sun’s rays, but she was perfectly content experiencing him through his warmth. She closed her eyes and let the smoke from her joint fill her lungs. A gentle tickle on her back made her stir slightly with a giggle.

“Hey there little friend” she smiled looking back at the tiny bee that landed on the sunflower tattoo in the center of her upper back. She wore a flowing sundress that allowed her tattoo to shine in the open and a wide-brimmed hat made of woven straw. Eden loved the little bees, and they loved her too. She placed a small drop of nectar on her fingernail and let the bee land and drink. Her little friend had his fill and flew away to rejoin his little bee family. Eden smiled contented as she watched it fly away. She went back to her meditation letting her blue teal dreadlocks rest lightly on her shoulders. She focused on the sounds of the ocean in front oh her home, the smell of the beach air, the cool breeze dancing with the warm sun.

The sun had given her too good a day to stay home on her cushion she thought so she lifted her parasol from its place beside her and began on her way. By the edge of her little table next to her little chair was a pair of round-lensed sunglasses the color of a sunset. They were her favorite pair to wear on days like these. The small wooden picket fence that separated her front yard from the beach added to the many things she loved about her home. Eden spun as she stepped through the gate letting her dress flow in the breeze. Eden longed for the sun’s full embrace, but her star white skin was much too fragile. She settled for her shade under her parasol and the warmth around her. The sand surrounded her feet like warm blankets with every step she took out onto the beach. She giggled to herself as she felt one of her little bee friends on her shoulder. He’d come to enjoy the warmth of the sand and sun with her, to breathe in the cool sea air. Some people said Eden saw the world through rose-colored glasses, that she was too naïve for her own good.

Eden saw the world around her and knew it was beautiful. From the vast ocean warmed by her beautiful sun to the smallest bee resting on her shoulder.

She loved it all.

Once again Eden is a character by Kaylee Carson go check out her art and give her all the love. Her characters just like her have inspired me as a writer and fellow artist.
