Bound Together

Writer's picture: Kyle WilliamsKyle Williams

The ancient poem begins:

War and Chaos bound together

Some say the guardians of War and Chaos are destined to be in love no matter the time, place, or gender of their champions. With every new human champion their souls inhabit Aldornak the guardian of War and Scoracnia the guardian of Chaos always find their way to each other.

The loving, quirky, and highly dangerous couple, Jason and Kaylee have origins just as strange as they are. Travel into Kaylee's world as the two destined lovers change each others lives forever.

“Morning mom!” Kaylee called rolling from the branch she’d slept on. Digging her clawed gauntlets into the tree to ease her decent she slid down to meet her parents.

“Hello Kaylee” her mother’s sweet voice called from the river. Her mom had already been up and bathed before Kaylee even woke. She’d always been an early riser.

“Ready for breakfast?” Kaylee’s dad called.

“Yeah let’s go!” Kaylee cheered as she ran deeper into the forest. She took to the trees while her father followed from below. Kaylee had always been strong and nimble. She loved her life in the woods with her parents, they were always there for her. Kaylee spotted a rabbit hopping along the brush.

Breakfast she thought as she fell from the tree landing with her clawed gauntlets impaling the rabbit.

“Got it!” Kaylee jumped up presenting her pray to her father with a smile. She’d had a full row of sharp teeth ever since she was born. Her parents loved her smile though, never saying she was anything less than beautiful. Kaylee walked back to where mother was and stared a fire. The rabbit began to cook as they all gathered around. Kaylee’s mother sat across from her. A sadness mixed with pride filled her face as she stared into the fire beading her long hair.

“What’s wrong momma?” Kaylee said delicately.

“I’m just thinking,” her mother said “It feels like just yesterday you were a little girl killing your first deer. You’re a woman now”

“But I’m still your kid mamma I’m still here” Kaylee said.

“Today is a special day” her mother said with a small smile “Go wash yourself”. Kaylee didn’t understand, but she did as she was told. The cold water ran down her skin washing away the dirt of a mornings work. Kaylee always loved to bathe in the cold waters of the river. She laid herself back letting the water rush over her. She ran her hands up her long, thin, muscular legs and up to her face letting the water pour over her. She closed her eyes enjoying the weightlessness for a moment as her back lay softly on the riverbed. She raised her head quickly, a fish caught in her sharp teeth. Spitting the fish out she began to laugh at herself. She walked through the trees back to her little campsite and dried herself off. She had a towel made of the skin of a panther spirit she’d met some time ago. That’s how she found out that you had to keep them alive while you skinned them if you didn’t want the hide to dissipate. The fur felt good on her body and head. She blew the short blonde hair out of her face shaking the water free. Kaylee slid on a tank top and jeans she’d stolen from a human campsite. She was lucky they fit on her lanky body. Her legs made up most of her five-foot ten inch stature. She was bare foot most of the time unless she wanted to wear the shoes she’d made from the skin of that same panther.

“How do I look?” Kaylee asked turning to her mother and smiling.

“You’re beautiful Kaylee” her mother said touching Kaylee’s face gently.

“So what’s going on? Why is today so special?” Kaylee asked.

“A handsome stranger enters our forest," her mother said “You must travel with him”

“You’re setting me up with a guy?” Kaylee asked confused.

“I’m leading you to your destiny child,” her mother said “You will thank me in time. Now let’s go, to the east”. Kaylee, still conflicted, but not one to disobey her parents left with her mother to the east. They’d only gone a couple miles when she felt it. She could smell something like burning wood on the air. His presence demanded attention. She couldn’t even see him, but she felt he was powerful. Kaylee took to the trees sneaking through the leaves and branches.

A mysterious stranger stood there, looking over his surroundings without a care. He had dark red snakes for hair cascading down his head and resting on his shoulders. She ducked deeper into the leaves as he turned. He was tall and muscular and wearing an armor that looked like he put someone else’s skeleton over his body. Kaylee gasped when she saw his smile, he had sharp teeth like her.

Jason sighed, the forest hadn’t brought him the satisfaction he was hoping for.

Maybe getting back in touch with nature wasn’t the right thing to do he thought. Suddenly Jason felt someone land on his back. He barely moved under the light weight, but he let out a startled yelp.

“Oh, my gosh mother was right you are strong!” Kaylee complimented. She swung and crawled around Jason as he tried to buck her off.

“Who are you what’s happening?!” Jason roared in annoyance.

“Oooo and your snakes are so cute!” Kaylee said wrapping her legs around Jason’s waist and lifting herself up to the back of his head. Jason grabbed her arms and threw her over his head. She landed gracefully in a crouch facing Jason. He summoned his sword pointing it at Kaylee.

“Who are you?” Jason growled.

“My names Kaylee!” She jumped up and smiled.

“Why are you here?” Jason asked.

“Well, my mom told me that a handsome, mysterious stranger was going to be in the forest today and that I had to meet him” Kaylee explained. She looked around for her mother, but she was nowhere to be found.

“Right...” Jason dissipated his sword “Well sorry to disappoint but I’m fresh out of room for friends”

“You don’t want friends?” Kaylee asked following him as he walked along “But friends are awesome”

Jason couldn’t put a finger on why, but he kind of wanted to keep her around. Something about her bubbly nature was refreshing.

“Well, I’m going to the human city of Las Vegas next," Jason said casually “You can come if you want”

“Oh my gosh really!” Kaylee beamed “I’ve never been to a human city before!”

“Our kind isn’t always welcome,” Jason began “It might be dangerous”

“Dangerous is my middle name” Kaylee said summoning her gauntlets.

“Whoa, nice weapons” Jason said.

“Aww thanks” she kicked her leg up backward as she smiled twisting her head cutely. Jason shook his head with a smile continuing forward. Kaylee took the time while they were walking to look the tall man over. They walked in silence for some time before they finally found a large lake. Jason took a deep breath moving his hand slowly to point up to the sky. A fireball launched from his fingertip into the air. At the signal a dragon flew over the tree line landing in front of them.

“My lord” the dragon bowed “And, friend?”

“I found her in the woods, or she found me rather” Jason said.

“Ooooo Lord Stranger” Kaylee giggled.

“Jason” He said “My name is Jason”

This is a piece of the origin story for two of my favorite character Jason and Kaylee! The origin stories are a long way from being released, but my listeners get a sneak peek here!
